Fair Tryout Evaluation
Rate players by jersey number across six weighted areas (Effort, Coachable, Ball Skills, Footwork, Finishing, Teammate). Players need ratings in at least four areas to be ranked. Use jersey numbers in the app and keep the name-to-number sheet on paper.
The 6 areas you rate
- Effort (weight 3x): Hustle, Tries hard things, Recovers quickly
- Coachable (weight 1.5x): Listens, Follows instructions, Adjusts
- Ball Skills (weight 1x): Dribble control, Passing, Catching
- Footwork (weight 1x): Jump stops, Pivots, Defensive slides
- Finishing (weight 1x): Layups, Touch around the rim
- Teammate (weight 1.5x): Communicates, Encourages, Handles frustration
Effort is weighted equal to all three skill areas combined, so an all-out kid who is still raw ranks alongside a polished kid who coasts. Character (Coachable, Teammate) counts more than raw skill at this age.
The rating scale
- Skip: you did not get to see this, so do not guess
- Needs Work: below what is typical for this age
- OK: about what you would expect
- Good: stands out, ready for more
Why it is fair
- Rate players by jersey number and keep names out of notes
- Every player is judged on the same observable criteria
- Players need ratings in at least 4 of the 6 areas to be ranked; others are marked as needing more observation
- Results print and copy in the same fairness order the screen shows
